We are in the fag end of the academic session 2015-16. The just ended academic year was full of activities. Man. Balakrishnanji after going through the annual report of VKVs in Arunachal Pradesh expressed his happiness on the magnitude of works taking place in VKVs and also the efforts of all the Karyakartas for their contributions. He said while interacting with the team at VKVAPT Dibrugarh, “VKVs have conducted various activities which are quite noteworthy. These activities will surely contribute for the development of the State. ”

Often I wonder at the passion and dedication of many Principals and teachers who are taking the work to a new height. Making the people to be passionate about the work is the very secret of our work as the capacity to experience a strong commitment to the ideals of Vivekananda Kendra would release a very potent energy in each and every person.

There are many things to share about the activities conducted in the months of February and March.

Spectacular Achievement of students in NMMS examination 2015
The students of VKVs have made clean sweep in the NMMS Examination 2015 by bagging almost all the scholarship by occupying the 133 positions out of 134 in the state. VKV Vivek Vihar became first in position tally followed by VKV Nirjuli.

It is told that the Education which does not focus on the character building aspects of the students fails to produce desired citizens who will contribute to the wellness of the society. I have heard people quoting the example of the Great Wall of China in this context. When the ancient Chinese wanted to protect themselves they decided to construct the great wall which took substantial labors for years to complete. They thought no one could climb it and attack them. But to the surprise of all the Chinese were invaded thrice during the first 100 years of its existence!  And every time, the hordes of enemy infantry had no need of penetrating or climbing over the wall... because each time they bribed the guards and came through the door. They built the wall but forgot to build the character. The education should be character building which ensures peace and prosperity.

The just ended month witnessed number of activities. Majority of them were aimed to impart Value education so that the Students grow up with good character.

Conduct of Martipuja

It is said “If you want to destroy the civilization of a nation there are 3 ways to do so” They are destroying family structure, education & Lower their role models. For the destruction of the family structure, the best way is to undermine the role of the mother.  The Matripuja, one of the most popular programs, was conducted to re-stress the role of Mother in one’s life. The students of Class X, who are completing the important stage in their life, perform the puja in which all the mothers of students studying in class X are invited. They perform ‘Padapuja’ and take the blessings of their mothers.  The much awaited Programme by Students and Parents are conducted in 5 schools namely Vivek Vihar, Nirjuli, Kharsang, Itanagar & Balijan. 229 mothers participated in the Programme. The program earned much appreciation from the parents who expressed deep happiness to present in the program which is rooted in the immortal traditions of our country. The program emanates deep feeling of motherhood and fosters filial duties among the students which act as a guiding light in the journey of life. The Matripuja in other 18 Secondary schools will be conducted in the month of February. Shri. Krishna Kumar & Shri. Unnikrishnan were present in all these schools.

State level Inter VKVs Gita Chanting Competition
The State Level Gita chanting competition was conducted at VKIC Guwahati from 17th to 19th December. The Gita chanting competition, an important event has 3 stages of competitions. 80 students from various VKVs who were the winners of previous stages gathered in the splendid hall of VKIC, Guwahati to compete in the final round. The ambience of the hall and the level of proficiency shown in recitation etc. were notable which was appreciated by the entire audience. Dr. Dipok kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Nalbari and the former Director of College Development Council, Guwahati University was the chief Guest for the inauguration ceremony and Dr. Nandita Goswami, Ex- Vice-Principal, Cotton College, Guwahati was the Chief Guest for Valedictory cum Prize distribution ceremony. Dr. Gayatri Sharma, Assistant Professor, Handique Girls College, Su. Reboti Devi, Joint Secretary VKSPV and Sri. Krishna Kumar, VKVAPT were the Judges for the competition.

The organizers have utilized the opportunity to arrange an exposure trip to the students in and around Guwahati which is the nerve center for entire North- East. They could spend a good amount of time in Umananda Island, Kamakhya Temple, Planetarium, Regional Science Center, Silpagram etc.

It was an enriching experience for me to participate in the Indigenous Faith Day celebrations and also to address the huge gathering at Seppa on 1st December. After my address one of them proudly said that “We Janjatis are not ‘backward’, we haven’t been ‘left behind’. We chose to live on our land, in our own ways. We have unique cultural practices which are to be nourished and protected” It reminded me of the saying that “Diversity is Divine Will”.

As educators we need to stand for nourishing the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh: the dawn lit mountain, which is also termed as ‘Gateway to serenity’.

VKVians make clean sweep in State Level Children’s Science Congress:
That was the heading given by a popular daily of Arunachal Pradesh. The news items goes “ITANAGAR, Nov 20: The projects of Lishant Tasar of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), Nirjuli was adjudged the best in the State Level Children’s Science Congress held at Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, IG Park, here with two days programme on November 19 and 20”.

I have heard an anecdote of a boy who happened to cogitate at the people who are restless and unhappy. One day he asked his grandmother about it. She replied “It is not possible for life to make a selfish person happy, whatever temporary satisfactions may come along. But...” She added, “Life can give you joy if you live for the joy of others,” The teachers who comprehend this may become more selfless which help them to be affectionate and working beyond the comfortable frontier. The unselfish teacher becomes a model to the students and his/her footsteps are followed by many.

There are many activities which happened during the month of September & October that reflect such unselfish endeavors of teachers, parents, well-wishers etc.

One such example is the inception of VKV Dollungmukh. The untiring works of a few namely Er.RatanTebin, Er.KinaTamik, Shri.MagaTasso, VKV Alumnus have taken lead to materialize the dream of the local populace of Dollungmukh to set up a VKV there.

The 34th VKV of Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated in Dollungmukh on 28 September 2015.Shri BengiaTolum, Nyishi Elite Society president and Shri.Rakesh, Executive Director NHPC Subansiri Project jointly inaugurated the VKV in the presence of Dr. Joram Begi, Director of all the VKVs of North Eastern Region & Trustee of VKVAP Trust, other dignitaries, a large number of well-wishers, officials of NHPC and parents. It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm of people who have assembled there. NHPC is committed for the creation of infrastructure under its CSR scheme.

TOPIC-BHARATIYA NARI

SPEAKER: B. RADHA DEVI, JOINT SECRETARY, VIVEKANANDA KENDRA VIDYALAYAS, ARUNACHAL PRADESH TRUST

“Snehavardhini” of VKV Nirjuli conducted Vimarsh-II on the topic “Bharatiya Nari” on 27th September 2015. There were 140 mothers were present for the programme.

It was conducted to deal with the status of Indian women and the manifold dimensions of women’s role in fostering various aspects of family and social values. It aimed at enlightening women to liberate them from the preponderance of social stigmas, which women are victim to and as a result stymied their progress.The programme was conducted as a part of the yearlong celebration of Mananeeya Eknathji Ranade Janma Shati Parva(MEJSP).Vimarsh-II was attended by 135 mothers . The participants were greatly benefitted by the edifying speech of Su. Radha didi , who expatiated on the numerous facets of “Indian Women, Family and Society,” citing wide range of empirical and didactic allusions. The cruces of the value points of Radha didi’s speech are highlighted below:

Women are the embodiment and epitome of tolerance and virtuosity. They need to be emancipated, relaxing the imposition on their mobility by elevating their status through education.

Mother is not a worker. She is an expression of magnanimity in the form of Tyaga and Seva.

Woman is like water. She takes the shapes as per the situation and bears the responsibility of unification and reconciliation in all matters of the family.
Atma is one and it has got no differences.

Women need to be buoyed up to stand on their own feet to unfetter them from all social restraints. Education is the only instrument which can bring about better exposure of women’s outlook to life.

Adi Sankaracharya’s argument on Advaida , he took the judge as the wife of the opponent. Women have such knowledge and quality.

Our culture is unique. A small family contributes to the whole world. A mother sees with a vision and thus the family unit becomes successful.
There was a lively interactive session after the address of Radha didi in which the participants put forward some pragmatic problems which they encounter in their daily life. The queries and doubts were clarified by didi. In the epilogue, mothers placed a request to incorporate both fathers and mothers in such programmes to make it more effective.

We have organized Vimarsh of  MEJSP programme in our campus on 28th September 2015 to have an interaction on two topics - Dharma the soul of India and Seva and service. Sri. Ganesh Dhungana welcomed the guest and introduced Eknathji and his works. The main speaker of this programme was Sri. N.Negi, Senior teacher, Higher Secondary school raga. He spoke on the topic Dharma : the soul of India and explained various dharma that we need to practice. He also made it clear that Dharma has no connection with religion. Sri. Padmanabhan, Principal, VKV Raga handled the topic Seva and its Indian concept. He spoke about Indian concept of Seva that  focuses on Nation-building,  and Vivekananda Kendra works for creating  a new generation who make it practical. The programme was started at 3:00pm and was over by 5.00.The programme helped us to get new five well-wishers and supporters of VKV
