Teething Troubles- Eknath Ranade Enters

Points of Discussion:

* In the centenary year of Swamiji birth anniversary, an initiative was taken by some admirers of Swamiji in Kanyakumari to build a Memorial on the Vivekananda Rock. But controversy and opposition took place when the efforts were taken by ‘Vivekananda Rock Memorial committee’ to make the idea reality.
* The ‘committee members’ approached Guruji Golwalker and seek help from Eknathji to get involved in the issue.
Stalwarts Involved

Points of Discussion:

* Eknathji joined to Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee. He identified the area as well as the persons of problems. He faced Shri Humayun Kabir first and then Shri Bhaktavatsalam with success.
* He raised the issue in Parliament with the help of a petition signed by 323 MPs from all political parties and got positive response from the Central Government.
* The State Government accepted the proposal of construction of Memorial on the Rock with the dimension of 91’ x 32’.
Friends Turned Hostile

Points of Discussion:

* Trouble took place over the demand by Kanyakumari Devaswom Board on the Sripada Mandapam and Eknathji faced and overcame the trouble.
* Internal tussel took place in Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee itself over the demand of construction of the statue of the Raja of Ramnad on the Rock. The problem got sorted out by outstanding management skill of Eknathji without any public controversy.
Collection Campaign- Novel Experiences
Points of Discussion:
* Eknathji had novel experience in collection campaign. His purpose was not simply the collection of money for the construction of the Memorial but to connect and instigate people from every part of the country with the memorial.
To Distant Nagaland and Other Innovations in the Campaign

Points of Discussion:

* During collection campaign Eknathji met with the people of different rank and level along with common people whom he gave utmost priority.
* His purpose of distributing One-Rupee Folder got immense success.
* His idea for the second phase started getting concrete shape.
Steer Clear of Politics

Points of Discussion:

* Eknathji tried hard to keep the whole affair out of politics and became successful. His purpose was to unite the whole country under one noble idea and work. His purpose got fulfilled.
* He approached the leaders from all political parties and brought them on the same board.
Not Partisan Not Sectarian

Points of Discussion:

* Eknathji did not want to make any new group or sampradaya in the name of Vivekananda. He wanted to set up an establishment / organization where all people would feel at home.
* He took the idea – ‘serving people is serving God’ from Swamiji for the second phase of his work.
Build Up a Self-Confident Hindu Society
Points of Discussion:
* In the second phase Eknathji’s purpose was to build up a self-confident Hindu Society.
* For Eknathji Swamiji was not an Avatar but a common man with all his limitations and weaknesses. Swamiji overcame all his limitations and weaknesses with his efforts and works and became a source of inspiration for all including Eknathji.
* Swamiji infused confidence in us and we can make our own destiny following the path of Karmayoga.
Absolute Fearlessness

Points of Discussion:

* We believe in the immortality of the soul. We believe that each soul is potentially divine. So we need not worry regarding our corporal frame as well as death. We must be absolutely fearless. And our fearlessness must be reflected in our every work of life.
Vivekananda Kendra- An Extraordinary Organization with Ordinary Men

Points of Discussion:

* Swamiji was an ordinary man but led an exemplary life after overcoming all his limitations and weaknesses. Likewise we are all ordinary men but with the virtue of team work we can do some extraordinary work collectively overcoming our individual limitations and weaknesses.
* This is the motto of our organization – we are all ordinary men with all our limitations and weaknesses but we can do some extraordinary work when we are together.
