National Mathematics Day 2025 was celebrated with great enthusiasm, academic depth, and institutional collaboration at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nirjuli, in association with North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology [NERIST], Arunachal Pradesh. The celebration was organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, whose extraordinary contributions continue to inspire generations of learners and researchers worldwide.

The programme was designed as a two-day academic celebration, comprising a Mathematics Quiz Competition held on 20^th December 2025 at VKV Nirjuli and a comprehensive academic and cultural programme conducted on 22^nd December 2025. The event aimed to nurture logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and scientific temperament among students while fostering appreciation for the practical relevance of mathematics in everyday life.

Objectives

The celebration was organized with the following objectives:

• To honor and commemorate the life and contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan
• To promote mathematical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills
• To demonstrate the application of mathematics in real-life situations
• To identify, recognize, and encourage mathematically talented students
• To strengthen collaboration between school education and higher technical institutions

PRE-EVENT ACTIVITIES

Mathematics Quiz Competition (20th December 2025)

As a precursor to the main celebration, a Mathematics Written Quiz Competition by NERIST, Nirjuli was organized on 20th December 2025 for students of Classes VIII, IX, and XI. The competition aimed to assess conceptual clarity, computational accuracy, speed, and analytical ability among students.

The main celebration at the school campus was conducted in a well-organized and disciplined manner, integrating academic presentations with cultural expressions to ensure holistic student participation.

The programme commenced with an invocation prayer by Km. Luyin Moyong and Km. Jeenam Ngukir (Class XII Science), creating a serene, focused, and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

Km. Gyamir Ete (Class XI Science) delivered a well-articulated presentation highlighting the significance of National Mathematics Day, the life journey and achievements of Srinivasa Ramanujan, and the indispensable role of mathematics in modern science and technology.

Kr. Siddharth Pradhan (Class XII Science) presented an engaging video demonstrating the omnipresence of mathematics in daily life, including areas such as shopping, cooking, architecture, budgeting, transportation, and digital technology. The presentation effectively bridged the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application.

A meaningful skit was presented by Kr. Miloko Talom and team, portraying significant milestones in Ramanujan’s life—his humble beginnings, self-learning spirit, perseverance against adversity, association with G.H. Hardy at Cambridge, and his lasting contributions to mathematical theory. The performance deeply inspired the audience.

An interactive mental mathematics quiz conducted by Kr. Bengia Tachung and team actively engaged students and teachers, promoting quick calculation, concentration, and analytical thinking.

Kr. Bengia Tachung (Class XII Science) recited a poem celebrating the beauty of numbers, logic, and reasoning, adding a creative and literary dimension to the academic celebration.

Students of Class XII Science presented a patriotic song, emphasizing the contribution of scientific and mathematical excellence towards national progress and development.

Programme at NERIST

The celebration was further extended to NERIST, where 25 selected students participated in various academic activities organized by the Mathematics Department.

Activities Conducted at NERIST

• Speech Competition on mathematical themes, Ramanujan’s contributions, and the role of Mathematical Activities and Demonstrations conducted by NERIST faculty, exposing students to higher-level mathematical concepts
• Felicitation Ceremony honoring the quiz winners and recognizing academic excellence

This exposure provided students with valuable insight into the academic environment of a premier technical institution.

A total of 19 students from Classes VIII, IX, and XI participated in the speech competition at NERIST, representing diverse academic sections and demonstrating commendable confidence and preparation.

The National Mathematics Day 2025 celebration at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Nirjuli, in collaboration with NERIST, was a resounding success. The programme effectively honoured the legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan while inspiring students to appreciate and excel in mathematics. The thoughtful integration of academic rigour, cultural expression, and institutional exposure created a meaningful and memorable learning experience.

The enthusiasm, discipline, and talent displayed by students and teachers reaffirm the institution’s commitment to holistic education and academic excellence.
