This is a report on the participation at the Eastern India Science Fair  held at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata from 9th of January 2018 to 13th of January 2018. I, Suman Kondha, A/T (Adhoc) along with, Kr. Tabom Nilling of class X, VKV Kuporijo, boarded Sumo from  on 4th January evening to move to Silapathar. On 5th we reached Silapathar and from the moved to Dibrugarh and stayed for the day. On 6th January at 6:25pm we boarded the train to Kolkata (Dibrugarh-Howrah Kamrup Express).

On 8th January (day of reporting) morning 7:00am we reached Howrah station. We departed from the station and took a taxi to the venue of the Science Fair, BITM, Kolkata. We reached there at 8:00am. On reaching there, we were showed a place to freshen up. At 8:30am we were given breakfast in the Museum canteen. After breakfast we took some rest till the registration and accommodation of the participants began. From 10:00am onwards the procedure of registration and accommodation began. At 1:00pm we were given lunch at BITM canteen. Our accommodation was done at Salt Lake Stadium. We were to be taken there in the evening, so till then we got time to assemble our model. At 7:30pm we were given dinner and after dinner we were taken to Salt Lake, our place of accommodation. We reached there at 9:30pm. At night I prepared the student for the presentation next day. At 10:00pm we went to bed.

9th January 2018: At 7:30am, after light refreshment a bus took us to BITM from our place of accommodation. After reaching BITM, at 8:30am we were given breakfast. Then the registration continued. Each state was given a stall. Arunachal Pradesh was also allotted a stall. In the meantime we installed our model in our stall while the registrations for some of the states were going on. At 12:00 noon we were given lunch in the BITM canteen. After lunch at 3:00pm the inaugural function began. The Inauguration of 43rd Eastern India Science and Engineering fair was done by Prof. Ajay Kumar Ray, Director of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur in presence of Shri A.S. Manekar, DG, National Council of Science Museums. The other dignitaries present were Mr. James Dragon, Director, American Centre and Public Affairs Officer, American Consulate, Kolkata and Shri Sk Emdadul Islam, Director of BITM. Towards the end of the Inauguration, the dignitaries took a round of the stalls to see the projects that has come for participation. A total of seven north-eastern states, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura and three eastern states, Orissa, Bihar and the host state West Bengal participated in the 43rd Eastern India Science and Engineering Fair. A total of 356 students from 160 schools and colleges of the 10 eastern and north-eastern states participated in the science fair. From Arunachal Pradesh there were two participants (I) Tabom Nilling, VKV Kuporijo and (II) Sudip Tamang, Govt. Senior Secondary School Sinchung. After the Inauguration function exhibition and work experience camp began. From 5:30pm a seminar on ‘popularization of science’ was conducted, where the students got a chance to interact with some prominent scientists and get answer to their queries. After the seminar at 7:30pm we headed for BITM canteen for dinner. After dinner at 8:30pm we boarded the bus which took us to Salt Lake, our place of accommodation.

10th January 2018: At 7:30am we had a light breakfast at Salt Lake and at 8:00am we departed from Salt Lake. At 8:30am we reached BITM and had our breakfast at BITM canteen. From 9:00am to 9:45am Science Show was organized where the students were shown magic and explained the science behind it. From 10:00am onwards the Exhibition and work experience camp began till 5:00pm. Some schools of Kolkata visited the Science Fair and interacted with the participants. In between we were served our lunch in packets at the stalls at 1:00pm and at 4:30pm Tiffin. From 5:30pm to 7:30pm Science quiz was organized. The winner of the quiz was Manipur . After the quiz at 7:30pm we were served dinner. And after dinner at 8:30pm we boarded the bus to Salt Lake to spend the night.

11th January 2018: At 7:30am we had a light breakfast at Salt Lake and at 8:00am we departed from Salt Lake. At 8:30am we reached BITM and had our breakfast at BITM canteen. After breakfast from 10:00am onwards exhibition and work experience camp began following the same schedule as the last day. Some more schools of Kolkata visited the Science Fair and interacted with the participants. At 5:00pm the students with the escorts were taken for a visit to Science City. There the participants were shown a panorama 3D movie on Human Evolution. At 7:00pm we were taken back to BITM to have dinner. After dinner at 8:00pm we were taken back to Salt Lake to spend the night.

12th January 2018: At 7:30am we had a light breakfast at Salt Lake and at 8:00am we departed from Salt Lake. At 8:30am we reached BITM and had our breakfast at BITM canteen. The exhibition and work experience camp began. At 10:00am the judges arrived in  our stall. Our participant, Tabom Nilling explained our model to the judges vividly and politely. After the judges  visit, we had our lunch at 1:00pm and at 4:30pm we had our Tiffin. Just like on 10th and 11th,on 12th as well some schools visited and interacted with the participants. Many people  came to visit the Museum and interacted with the participants. From 5:30pm to 7:30pm Cultural programme was organized where all the states performed songs and folk dances of their own which made the evening very colourful. Our participant, Tabom Nilling was the one who started the programme with a beautiful Tagin song. After the cultural programme we had our dinner in BITM canteen and boarded the bus to Salt Lake.

13th January 2018: At 7:30am we had a light breakfast at Salt Lake and at 8:00am we departed from Salt Lake. At 8:30am we reached BITM and had our breakfast at BITM canteen. The exhibition and work experience camp began. Till 4:00pm the exhibition went where visitors to the museum and students from various schools interacted with the participants and learn about their models. From 4:30pm onwards the valediction and prize distribution started. All the participants of the Science fair were given participation certificate. The valedictory function was again presided over by prof. Ajay Kumar Ray, Shri A.S. Manekar and Sk Emdadul Islam. The 1st prize in group was begged by participants from Assam and for individual was begged by a participant of Manipur. By 7:00pm the valediction and prize distribution was concluded. We had our dinner at BITM canteen and by 8:00pm we were taken back to Salt Lake.
14th January 2018: At 7:30am we had a light breakfast at Salt Lake and at 8:00am we departed from Salt Lake. At 8:30am we reached BITM and had our breakfast at BITM canteen. After breakfast we visited the Museum  . At 1:00pm we had our lunch in the BITM canteen and after that by bus we were dropped at Howrah Station by the BITM personals. At 5:35pm we boarded our train back to Dibrugarh.

We reached Dibrugarh on 16th January lately because the train was late due to fog. So we had to wait in Dibrugarh that day. On 17th January, early morning we moved from Dibrugarh for Silapathar. At 4:30pm the Sumo from Silapathar departed  and we reached VKV Kuporijo at 5:00am in the morning.
