A brief report of the 3 Days Sadgamaya Shibir at VKV Jirdin (2 ndOctober to 4th October ,2017) The Personality Development Camp was organized at VKV Jirdin from 2nd October to 4th October, 2017. Altogether 64 participants from Class VI –VIII from two nearby schools of Aalo township i.e; Govt. Secondary School- Pakam and Govt. Secondary School-New Market, Aalo along with our host school took active participation in this camp. Other schools couldn’t attend due to their examination schedule after Dusshera.

Participants reported at 3 p.m. on 2nd Oct evening. Accommodation for the camp participants was done in two of the hostels. After the evening prayer, Principal VKV Jirdin welcomed the participants. He briefed the purpose of the camp and over all set up of the various activities they were going to learn in the three days Sadgamaya Shibir.


Next was computer session of Su. Jhutika Paul, was arranged in the computer lab where students were shown video on the projector of our Honourable Prime Minister Sri. Narendra Modi ji. It was an interaction of PM with the students from various schools on the eve of Teacher’s Day, 2016. Another video was shown of differently-abled students achieving success and being honoured by PM. That session helped students to have a positive attitude towards life and encouraged them to have faith in themselves. An introductory session was kept after supper, where every staff members gave their self introduction followed by introduction by the camp participants. Followed by division of groups- Savitri, Nivedita , Gargi and Maitree. Next day’s routine was told to them rules and regulations to be followed. 3 rd October was the formal inaugural of the PDC Camp. In the Inaugural Session, lighting of the lamp by Sri. Pokter Rime (Principal, Govt. Sec. School -Pakam) , who was invited as the Chief Guest.

And Principal VKV Jirdin gave the welcome address and spoke on the importance of the Sadgamaya Shibir. He motivated the participants to take active part and enlightened them with the inner meaning of “ Sadgamaya”.

The Chief Guest gave a speech and expressed his gratitude towards school for the invitation and cited that the participants are fortunate enough to attend such a camp. He stressed upon the importance of such camps and the seven developmental needs of the young generation. Those are physical activity, competence and achievement, self definition, creative self expression, positive social interaction, structure and clear limits and meaningful participation. Vote of thanks was given by Su. Gome Riba.

The First Session was on the topic: Health and Hygiene by Dr. Tsering W. Kato. She spoke about adolescent stage and puberty changes and things to keep in mind –Do’s and Don’ts in that age group. She also talked about developing good nutritious food habits and about nutrients deficiency diseases and its causes.

The Second Session was Science Session by Su. Rina Khare ( Science teacher VKV Jirdin) in the computer lab details regarding the process of photo synthesis, speed of light, distance of space, journey to earth. Besides a video to make the participants aware of good touch and bad touch on the projector.

The Third Session was Quiz Round by Sri. Surajit Das ( Social Science Teacher VKV Jirdin). The Quiz Session had eight rounds on different subjects. The students actively took part in it. Winning groups were given gift prizes too.

The Geet Session was taken now and then by Su. Rupa Upadhaya (Mathematics teacher VKV Jirdin). The shibir geet for the camp was “Maan mein humne yeh thaani hai….”. And patriotic song like “ Nirmano ke pawan yug mein, hum Charitra nirman na bhule…” was also taught to lead and follow in the sweet mesmerizing voice of Rupa didi. Children quickly picked up the song and its rhythm with didi.

The Fourth Session was “Art of Living” by Sri. Ashok Choudhuri and Smt. Kegam Basar Ado . Sri. Ashok ji enlightened the students the secret of being happy in life by the power of meditation. He taught the Bhastrika Pranayam- which everyone present in the session followed to get rid of negative thoughts like fear, anxiety, stress and jealousy. In addition to that Smt. Kegam Ado shared her experience how she came across Art of Living and how it benefited to gain her health. In a simple manner through a small game she helped to distinguish between the spiritual and material world.
The Fifth Session was Krida Yoga by Sri. Dhanaji T.B ( PT Teacher VKV Jirdin). During KRida Yoga students played four games- Kho-kho, Relay Race, Potato Race and Sudama Ki Potali Race. Students enthusiastically played thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Sixth Session was Group Discussion by Smt. Padma Ningombam and Smt. Ritu Naroh( English Teachers VKV Jirdin). Students were asked to discuss among their group members and present what they gained from all the sessions so far and were asked to share their views. From each group one participant presented it on behalf of their group. It was really good to see that in single day students gained their self-confidence to speak in front of the audience. Very beautifully they presented it.

After Supper, students assembled in prayer hall for Prerana- se – Punarutthan (Happy Assembly) supervised by Smt. Meenakshi Pandey and other staffs. Different indoor games were played. Both teachers and camp participants merrily took active part in it. Students voluntarily gave individual cultural performances displaying their individual talents. It was concluded with a moral story told by Smt. Meenakshi Pandey.

 th October,2017 Students gave their filled feedback form. And the Valedictory Ceremony took place where Principal, VKV Jirdin expressed his heart felt gratitude to the camp participants for their wonderful discipline and punctuality shown during that three days residential camp. He in his speech also focused on the founder of VKV’s Mananeeya Sri Eknathji Ranade, who was behind making of Personality Development Camp take place and bestowing children’s the opportunity to attend such camp and helping them to build their personality. The camp was concluded with offering of flowers to Swami Vivekananda and giving away Participation Certificates by the Principal to the camp participants. The camp participants left with memories to cherish and share with their family and friends for their respective schools escorted by some of the teaching staffs.
