In keeping the Indian ethos and culture of मात्रुदेवो भव, पितृदेवो भव intact and a bond between parents and children, VKV Roing organised Matri Puja for the students of outgoing Class X & XII students which is a unique programme of Vivekananda Kendra on 22nd March2022 at 10 am on its school premises.
There were 40 mothers and 31 fathers present in this occasion who were worshipped by their children. At the very outset the progenies washed the feet of their parents and adorned them in the hall.
Sri Prasant Puzari, the Principal of the school formally welcomed the august gathering and briefed the purpose of such celebration for the students in the school. मात्रुदेवो भव, पितृदेवो भव, आचार्यदेवो भव, अपतपिदेवो भव, राष्ट्रदेवो भव- is our Sanatana Culture, the concept of Old Age Home or ब्रुधाश्रम has not been in our family tradition, mother and
father is worshipped as God and Goddess. Children leave their parents and home for their pursuits of higher education and jobs and they should not forget and neglect their mother and father. This is a kind of programme for those students who are always with the parents and testimony to upkeep the strong bonding between the children and parent. He quotes an anecdote of Thomas Alva Edison, how his mother played a great role to mould him to a great scientist who invented electric bulb. Edison was removed from the school due to his poor performance and indiscipline behaviour; his teacher wrote all such things in the letter but his mother hiding everything aside told he was such a talented boy that the teachers failed to teach him in their school. He should be taken to some other school where the
teachers are better and Thomas can be taught properly. Since then the mother gave good care and proper motivation which could lead Edison success in his life. The truth of the letter had been discovered long after the death of his mother once his house was on fire and things were piled up. The letter revealed that he had been expelled from the school not because of his brilliancy but of his failure and mother did not say anything and it was her determination of upbringing of Thomas.

Sri P K Pandey, CIC of the school performed puja preceded to a briefing about the event. He told it was not exactly a puja but an occasion to honour and adorn mother and father. Mother plays an integral part whatsoever one may be in the life; no one repays the role of mother, this is the time we all will invoke our mothers and show our reverence through this programme. Children prayed their mothers with tilak, akhyat, flower, diya, agarbati and raksha sutra and at the end of the puja they touched the feet of their parents and wereblessed.
Smt. Rosalind Pertin, CO, Roing graced the occasion as the Chief Guest cum Speaker who enlightened and motivated the students to uphold such tradition in their life respecting the parents. While lecturing, she became nostalgic and remembered her school life that spent in VKV Tafrogam- sitting in the hall and listening to the elders. She cautioned the students as they are ready to go to the outside world to be abstained from the alluring world and
negative things even drugs, alcohol etc. She expressed her gratitude and thanks to the school authority by inviting her and offering chance to speak two lines to the students and parents. She blessed the children and offered best wishes for their CBSE board examination and prayed the Almighty to build bright futures ahead.
Students performed Saraswati vandana which could bind the serenity atmosphere of the hall. Parents and students chaired the podium with their experiences being shared to all and an emotional atmosphere prevailed everywhere in the room. On their experience sharing, parents and students uttered about it as the first time they were attending such programme which can lit up family tradition and Indian culture and there were in fact grateful to the school and Vivekananda Kendra for organising such type of programme at the need of the time. Students marked their love towards their mother and vowed to care
them throughout the life.
