Mathematics Teachers' Seminar at VKV Roing
The Mathematics Seminar on the topic Indian Mathematicians and their Contributions was conducted on 27/06/2025 in the school prayer hall at 4:30 PM. Four mathematics teachers of the school presented their papers. The seminar was held under the guidance of Sri Shyamal Chakaravorty, Principal, VKV Roing. His presence at the event and the observations he shared have significantly increased its impact and provided clarity of purpose.
Participants:
1. Sri Ramchandra Gogoi
2. Sri Gauranga Das
3. Smt Shilpi Das Gupta
4. Sri Kishore Kr Nath
Though the participants presented the same topic, their content of expression was enriched with the life and contributions of a variety of personalities in the field of mathematics in India.
1. Sri Ramchandra Gogoi
Through his presentation, he accentuated the importance of Vedic Mathematics and expressed the significance of implementing various learning topics of the same in smaller classes.
2. Sri Gauranga Das
With his Sanskrit recital and its explanation, he brought a gist of the greatness with which India once shone in the field of mathematical and logical calculations. He explained and explored in depth the life and contributions of ancient mathematicians such as Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, and Bhaskaracharya, and from the modern period, the contributions of Shakuntala Devi, C. P. Ramanujam, and D. R. Kaprekar were also brought into discussion.
3. Smt Shilpi Das Gupta
She explained the subject of Vedic Mathematics decisively, with the contributions of Aryabhata I and Bhaskara I. A major part of her presentation dealt with how the seemingly complex systems of calculations, such as Samkalita (Addition), Vyutkalana (Subtraction), Gunana (Multiplication), and Bhagahara (Division) have been simplified under the ambit of Vedic Mathematics.
4. Sri Kishore Kr Nath
His precise presentation extracted various benefits of Vedic Mathematics for kids. He shed light on the contributions of Bharati Krishna Tirthaji Maharaj, a saint from the Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, who in the modern perio,d developed Vedic Mathematics for the sincere learner. Some of the sutras explicitly developed by the saint were explained in the seminar.
All participants also shared their views and strategies for implementing the ancient Vedic mathematical knowledge systems in classrooms. The Principal categorically advised the teachers to enhance their ideas further and assigned them to come up with an action plan, which he said he would be waiting to see implemented in this session itself.
The in-charges of the school's academic committee judged the seminar presentations.
