Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt Of India had collaborated with Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) to organise an ‘Inspire Internship Science Camp’ on 1st - 5th February at Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh. The camp was especially for higher secondary classes to apprise them of possible future prospects in science stream. Various fields of science had been vividly depicted by eminent dignitaries from reputed educational and research institutions of our country.
The schedule comprised of two paper presentations and one and half hour laboratory practical. A very thoughtful step had been taken towards encouraging students towards study of sciences.
After the inaugural session on 1st Feb, Prof. A. Arunachalam, Principal Scientist of Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi had presented a paper on Agricultural Sciences in which he emphasised on the proper utilisation of genetically modified seeds in farming and thereby contributing to farmer’s welfare during the challenges faced due to climatic changes. Prof. Kusum Arunachalam, School of Environment &Natural Resources, Doon University, Dehradun had presented a paper on environmental sciences and explained how steps were taken to utilise algae to form bio-fuel as sustainable energy resource.
Prof. J. N. Sarma, retired professor of geology, Dibrugarh University had presented an outstanding research paper on morphology of the mighty Brahmaputra. Dr. Amrit Barbora, Citrus Research Station, Tinsukia had presented a paper on food technology and discussed about various research prospects in the field of agriculture.
Prof. Jayanta Lashkar, Dept. of Geological Sciences, Guwahati University had explained basic concepts of earth sciences and their role in prosperity of a civilization. Prof. Sreemoyee Bora, Dept. of Mathematics, IIT Guwahati had wonderfully presented how maths is present everywhere if seen with a keen eye of calculation and logic.
Prof. Sidananda Sarma, Dept. of Physics, IIT Guwahati had given a demonstration of application of basic concept of Physics thereby creating great enthusiasm and interest. Dr. Manish Kanwat, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (ICAR), Hayuliang presented a paper on Agriculture Sciences and Dr. Shilpa Pandey, Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleosciences, Lucknow had presented a paper on Paleobotany. Mr. Dhruvajyoti Adhikari, Dept. of Computer Sciences had explained few recent developments of computer sciences.
Approximately 200 students from six different schools had actively participated in the camp. From VKV Roing 31 children of std 11 had participated. Children were awarded certificates for their enthusiastic participation in all the activities and practical classes.
