CSIR-NEIST branch laboratory, G-Sector, Naharlagun organised 2-days workshop for Science Teachers of different schools. 27 teachers including 10 teachers from different VKVs in Arunachal Pradesh participated in the training programme of active learning techniques for teaching science from 18th &19th July 2016. Smt.VIMALA OAK, Teacher Developer, Royal Society of Chemistry was the resource person. Selected teachers from VKV Balijan, Banderdewa,Nirjuli, Itanagar, Vivek Vihar Yazali, Sher & Oyan participated in the Workshop.

During this workshop teachers explored a number of different active learning techniques and discussed the ways which can be implemented into their everyday teaching. The following techniques were taught in the workshop.

  6. BINGO
  7. WORD SEARCH
  8. DOMINOES
  9. CONNECT FOUR
  10. WORKSHEET

Teachers practised above techniques in the workshop and made lesson plans for the same for teaching different topics of science subject in the class room. All those techniques can help the students to develop Thinking, Sharing and create a lot of Fun in the class room which make learning Science a very interesting and meaningful. Teachers also performed the following experiments and recorded their observations in the lab by using Micro technique.

  1. Decomposition reaction
  2. Iron extraction
  3. Solubility
  4. Double Displacement reaction
  5. Displacement reaction
  6. Neutralization reaction.
  7. Making Indicators
  8. Calibrator- using universal Indicator
  9. Collection of carbon dioxide in a balloon by using vinegar and baking powder.
  10. Candle experiment
  11. Electrolysis of sodium chloride

A set of exemplar resources of student activities provided to every participant by the resource person   on the topics-Chemical reactions and equations and The particle nature of matter (Class-IX- X). The workshop ended with an opportunity for every teacher to plan what he/she would do next apart from the above mentioned materials. However, the techniques taught in the workshop can be used in other subjects also as per the need of the teacher in the class.
