The state level 67th Vanamahotsava programme was organized at VKV, Itanagar by the Department of Environment and Forest, Government of Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with VKV, Itanagar on 4th of July. 2016. The programme was conducted in two parts.

  1. Mass Tree Species Plantation and
  2. Awareness Programme

All the dignitaries were given warm welcome with band. The Chief Secretary inaugurated the function by planting a tree. There were 47 plants planted and 20 metallic plant guards were also fixed. After the inaugural plantation, all the guests and students of VKV, Itanagar along with public gathered at Maa. Eknathji Centenary Memorial Auditorium for the second part of the programme. Sri. Unnikrishnan, Education Officer, VKVAPT and CIC, Papum Pare Cluster presented the Welcome Address in which he highlighted the importance of Vanamahotsava. He also introduced the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour to the audience. He also conveyed the condition of our approach road in a polished way.

Sri. K D Singh, Advisor to Hon’ble Chief Minister has expressed unhappiness about the large scale felling of trees. He also mentioned the steps taken to revive them by the state government. Sri. Onkar Singh, PCCF (E&F) explained the benefits of forests to the august gatherings.

There was a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of Essay Writing (For Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools) and Drawing Competition (For Primary and Upper Primary Schools). There were three prizes backed be the children of VKV, Itanagar. They are

[a] Essay Writing (Senior Group)
FIRST POSITION Km. TANA YAKAR Class – XII Arts Rs. 10,000/- and Merit Certificate
SECOND POSITION Km. IPSITA PATIR Class – XII Sc. Rs. 7,500/- and Merit Certificate
[b] Essay Writing (Junior Group)
THIRD POSITION Km. ROSEMOYEE BHUYAN Class – VIII Rs. 3,500/- and Merit Certificate

 

Finally, the Chief Guest Smt. Shakuntala Gamlin IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Arunachal Pradesh narrated the conditions of Japan, where the cities have come up with natural beauty of trees with their concentrated efforts. She had also explained that why saw and veneer mills, plywood industries and timber businesses were given license and now why are they controlled. She expressed that Itanagar should be developed as the Smart City by planting trees in large numbers. She had described the conditions of climate and global warming status at present worldwide. She also lauded the efforts taken by VKV authorities for keeping the campus clean and full of vegetation in the campus. She also congratulated the VKV authorities for providing ideal environment for learning for children. She promised that she will take necessary steps to make the approach road alright.
